Why Should I Join?

For the same reason we should do everything: to grow closer to Jesus Christ and help bring about his kingdom in many hearts. The surest way to conform ourselves to Jesus is to live his life: as evangelists, as friends, as the grain of wheat that dies to bring forth new life.

There are many lost and wounded people in our cities. As Jesus tells us, "The harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few." If you won't go out to reach them, then who will? Our sweet Lord deigns to work through us weak instruments, and it is only for us to trust and say "Yes". As an added bonus, you will meet many interesting people and make some good friends along the way!

How It Started

On All Saints Day in 2013, God invited me to take up a new ministry. In the span of sixty seconds on NW 21st street, the Holy Spirit revealed the different spiritual conditions of three sets of people, and then showed me that the only religious presence on the streets was a fundamentalist pastor and some Mormon missionaries. Unlike previous centuries, the Catholic presence on the street had vanished, and in a time when it is desperately needed. After some reflection, I had my neighbor sew a short tunic with the Jesus Caritas heart (after Blessed Charles de Foucauld) and now I walk the Portland Metropolitan area offering a visible presence of Christ's love. Others have since joined me, and we have become a fixture around town. We walk with the blessing of Archbishop Sample.
